As you review your financial situation in the New Year and gather up those pesky receipts for your 2013 tax return, please consider what you will do to support The Woodlands at John Knox Village, our new Health Center. We are ready to help you explore your options on a confidential basis.
Your Foundation is prepared to accept various assets as gifts. Quite often, careful planning can result in a more significant gift for the new health center and greater tax savings for you. (As seen on page 20 of the February 2014 issue of the John Knox Village Voice. .)
In the last three months, I have had several people ask me about language to provide their estate planning attorney so that they can leave a gift in their will or trust to the John Knox Village Foundation.
In June, the Foundation hosted the annual charitable gift annuity luncheon to thank all those who have completed a charitable gift annuity with John Knox Village. I think you will enjoy the pictures of that event. I have talked about gift annuities in several issues of the Village Voice. Most of you know the way they work.
As you may recall, John Knox Village leaves the gift annuity funds invested until the annuitant(s) pass away. It truly is a gift you give today that benefits the future needs of The Village. Some have chosen to make the new Health Center Fund the beneficiary of their gift annuity. (.)
We have talked about charitable bequests included in your will as an attractive way to make a gift to John Knox Village at the end of your life. There are several other ways for donors to make charitable gifts – known collectively as gifts by beneficiary designation. I hope you will review these options to see if one or more of them might fit your situation:
IRA and Qualified Plan Designations – You can designate the John Knox Village Foundation and other charities to receive all or a portion of what remains in an IRA or a qualified retirement plan, such as a 401(k) or 403(b) plans. (.)
The Woodlands Fund

Resident Assistance Fund

Rose Garden Fund
Our beautiful and lush rose garden allows The Rose Buddies to decorate and deliver fresh picked roses throughout the Village.
Maggie Goetz Bird Fund
There are a variety of birds in and around our lakes. This fund provides for the feeding, care, and medical needs of our birds.
Employee Scholarship Fund
Knowledge is power and information is liberating. There are employees wanting to further their education, gain more knowledge, and better their future—but they lack financial assistance. This fund provides scholarship assistance for employees who want to further their education.
Tropical Tree Fund
When Hurricane Wilma thrashed Southeast Florida in October 2005, the Village lost over 200 trees. With such devastation to the grounds, Village residents donated money to restore what was lost. Under the guidance of a resident, this fund continues to purchase trees to plant around the Village.
Chapel Maintenance Fund
In 1989, the residents of the Village came together to build the Village Centre. This building serves as the chapel for Sunday services as well as the auditorium for Village activities and the Fitness Center. Donations to this fund will help cover costs of maintaining the building.
The Village maintains a fleet of cars and buses. These vehicles are used to transport residents wherever they want and need to go. Today, where a car represents freedom, it's reassuring to know that the Village’s transportation fleet will be able to take residents to and from their destination.
